Compassionate Communication Puppet Show Offered to Families
The Center for Violence-Free Relationships is offering a puppet show “Hampton Gets New Glasses” for families of children of all ages on Monday, March 26th at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.
The story focuses on Hampton, a piglet who has a conflict with a friend who broke his new sunglasses. Different animals appear to give their take on how Hampton should handle the situation. A friendly giraffe, one of the animals giving support, helps him to connect with his feelings and needs and make a request that can change his life for the better.
The Center for Violence-Free Relationships desires to introduce families and children to the basics of Nonviolent Communication (NVC). “We wanted to provide a fun and creative way of engaging families and young people and give them tips on communication.” Positive Solutions Director Eddie Zacapa says. “We are excited about this opportunity to share NVC with the community.”
NVC has been used around the world to mediate conflicts, nurture relationships, and promote peace. NVC is also known in some circles as “giraffe language” because the giraffe has the largest heart of all land mammals. The giraffe symbolizes having a large heart for compassion for one self and others.
The Center for Violence-Free Relationships is dedicated to building healthy relationships, families and communities free from sexual assault and domestic violence through education, advocacy and services in western El Dorado County.
The puppet show will be held at The Center for Violence-Free Relationships at 344 Placerville Dr., Suite 11, Placerville, CA95667. The suggested donation for this workshop is $5.00 (children enter free) and assistance is available to individuals in financial need. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.
