Sexual Assault Support Groups
AMAC (Adults Molested As Children) Group
This group is open to AMAC’s, adults who were molested as children. We come together in an environment of support, confidentiality, and safety to explore feelings, mourn violation, gather strength and celebrate survival. If you’d like to feel that you are not alone, there is hope, please request to be notified when a group is forming. You’ll be asked to come in to the Center and discuss your particular situation with a counselor. We ask that you participate as much as you are able. That’s what makes a support group successful.
Within a supportive environment, group members will have the opportunity to explore, share, and understand emotions and thoughts surrounding the abuse. Through the group experience, you can gain insight into your own journey of understanding and healing.
Support Groups
- Provide a safe and supportive environment for the discussion of childhood sexual abuse
- Promotes awareness of patterns, cycles, beliefs and behavior associated with childhood sexual abuse
- Creates an atmosphere of hope and validation
- Develops the self-awareness and self-respect necessary for safe, healthy, trusting relationships
The group size varies between 5 – 13 women. This is a closed group (once the group starts no new participants are added which facilitates trust and confidentiality). The groups run two hours, once a week for 14 weeks. We ask all group participants to commit to coming to all sessions. There is no childcare available. There is a charge for the group, but no one is denied for inability to pay (something can be worked out).
