Underserved Populations

The Center prides itself on its ability to meet the needs of all populations of people. Violence affects all people and we hope to reach all people who are affected by intimate partner violence and family violence.

Male Survivors: It is a fact that men are victims of sexual assault and domestic violence. Male survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault often have added barriers in healing from abuse such as: shame, guilt, and secrecy. Our staff has been trained to understand these extra obstacles, and they are prepared to help male victims further their healing process.

Differently Abled: Our agency and safe house are ADA accessible. We also know that a disability can be used as a tool to gain power and control in a domestic violence relationship. Sexual abuse can often be harder to report when the person who is abusing you is also your caretaker. We understand all these different factors and know the extra challenges the differently abled face.

Latino Services: We have a Latino outreach advocate, Elva Manor and two other Spanish speakers within the agency. We are currently translating all of our forms to Spanish as well as English. If you have any other questions about our Latino Outreach program please go to our Latino Outreach Advocate page.

Young Adult and Teen Survivors: Dating violence and sexual assaults within the teen community is an escalating problem. To address the issues of teen survivors: we have a counselor who can go out to the high schools and middle schools to meet with teen survivors for counseling.

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender & Questioning (LGBTQ): LGBTQ survivors of violence often fear reaching out for help due to homophobia and discrimination. We understand the needs of the LGBTQ communities by providing culturally competent services in a safe, non-judgmental environment.

Elderly Survivors: Domestic violence and sexual assault later in life is often overlooked by the survivor’s support system. We know that it is never too late to get help and to begin to heal from abuse.
